An ecumenical service of welcome was held at St John the Baptist Roman Catholic Cathedral at midday. Two Bishops, one Anglican the Rt Revd Graham James and one Roman Catholic, the Rt Revd Alan Hopes welcomed the Archbishop of Canterbury along with other ecumenical leaders.
The service included readings and prayers on the theme of reconciliation. There was a three-fold act of confession in the light of our failure to be ‘one’. And Archbishop Justin gave absolution. Archbishop Justin said “The churches’ answer to a divided world must be an example that comes from the unity of God in Christ that he has given us. We must be more urgent in action and challenge structures of sin and injustice. We are united when we serve together.”
